The Aeolian-Skinner Legacy presents Music Festival in Honor of Clarence Dickinson and in Memory of Helen A. Dickinson, recorded live in concert at The Riverside Church, New York City, April 27, 1958. Organists Robert Baker, John Huston, and Charlotte Garden perform Dr. Dickinson’s “Allegro Maestoso” from the Storm King Symphony, “Andante Serioso,” and “The Joy of the Redeemed.” Fred Swann is at the organ for the service music. A massed choir of over 800 performs works written by or edited by Dr. Clarence Dickinson, with Donald Coats, Dr. Dickinson, Hugh Giles, Elmer Lancaster, Robley Lawson, Hugh Porter, Gordon W. Stearns, and Richard Weagly conducting. The recording also features the world premiere performance of Leo Sowerby’s anthem, “Eternal Light,” which was written for the occasion. There are spoken tributes by George Knight, Dr. Norris L. Tibbetts, Henry Pitney Van Dusen, Dr. Paul Austin Wolfe, Dr. S. Lewis Elmer, Rev. Deane Edwards, and Virgil Fox, with a short acceptance speech by Dr. Dickinson. Over 2 hours of music, plus spoken tributes and an improvised postlude by George Volkel. MONO.
